It was something I ate traditionally with my family around the 5th day of the 5th month of the Chinese calendar. A holiday called the dragon boat festival in English. The food was called zongzi and it was made of rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. I never knew much about it and if someone explained it to me, I had forgotten about it. It celebrated the life and death of the Chinese patriot and poet, Qu Yuan. I would normally find some on our table, held together by string ready to cut, unwrap and eat the sweet sticky rice that would be inside and sometimes be spotted with meat or chinese dates and I always enjoyed eating them and I always liked unwrapping them like a present seeing if the inside would be sweet or savory.
