Bulgaria is located in the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula in southeastern Europe. Founded in the 7th century, Bulgaria is one of the oldest states on the European continent.
Our country is remarkable for its variety of scenery - majestic mountains, beautiful Black Sea coast, lots of mineral springs, which attract many visitors. Due to its unique positioning, Bulgaria is intersected by historically important routes from northern and eastern Europe to the Mediterranean and from western and central Europe to the Middle East, and this mix of cultures can be seen in its cuisine, its architecture, and its religious heritage. Bulgaria is a land of ancient culture and the earliest European civilization developed here. The remains of Thracian, Hellenistic and Roman culture are many and varied. Some of the most famous treasures in the world were discovered in our country, such as the Varna necropolis, Thracian tombs and sanctuaries and a large number of golden artifacts. The capital of Bulgaria Sofia was founded thousands of years ago and has rich and remarkable history. Today Sofia is a modern city, which combines contemporary architecture and Roman ruins from nearly 2000 years ago. Sofia is also a home to vast parks and lovely gardens which offer a welcome rest from the busy daily life. The city is located at the foot of the Vitosha Mountain and its ski slopes and hiking trails are just a short ride from the center of the city. Sofia is home to many of Bulgaria's finest museums, galleries, restaurants and clubs, where visitors can taste delicious food, blending tradition, imagination and the spirit of the city.
